Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) has earned accreditation as a Baby-Friendly Hospital, effective from 14 May 2026 until 13 May 2029. The Health Screening Programme at the Public Service Commission of Malaysia (SPA), organised by SPA in collaboration with Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), was held on 27 and 28 July 2026 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the SPA Building, Block F1, Complex F, Putrajaya. A total of 200 SPA staff members participated in the programme, which featured various health-related activities including health screenings, health promotion booths, Pap smear and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) tests, Breast Self-Examination (BSE) guidance, pelvic ultrasound scans, and men’s health screenings.
Several HCTM departments contributed to the success of the programme, including the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Nursing Services Department, Department of Surgery, Customer Service Department, Staff Polyclinic, Director’s Office, Department of Medical Rehabilitation Services, and Advanced Reproductive Centre (ARC).
This meaningful initiative was implemented in accordance with the Human Resource Service Circular (PPSM) Ceraian SR.2.5.1 on the Health Screening Procedures for Public Service Officers and Declaration of Health Records through the HRMIS System, with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle culture among civil servants. The programme was also attended by the senior management teams from both organisations, who provided support and observed the progress of the health screening activities.
Representing HCTM were Associate Professor Dr. Jamari Sapuan, Deputy Director (Surgical Services); Dr. Zairul Azwan Mohd Azman, Deputy Director (Medical Services); Associate Professor Dr. Shahizon Azura Mohamed Mukari, Deputy Director (Diagnostic, Pharmacy and Support Services); Mr. Mursidi Ahamad, Deputy Director (Administration); and Puan Masrifah Zakaria, Head of Nursing Services.
Meanwhile, SPA was represented by YBhg. Datuk Ikhbal Hanam bin Mukras, Secretary of the Public Service Commission; Mr. Mansor Abd Hamid, Deputy Secretary (Services); Puan Sharenawane binti Hussin, Deputy Secretary (Recruitment); and Mr. Kamarudin Abdullah, Secretary of the Management Services Division.
The strategic collaboration between HCTM and SPA demonstrates the continued commitment of both organisations to ensuring that public service personnel maintain optimal health, while simultaneously enhancing productivity and improving the quality of service delivery to the community.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) and the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), have strengthened their position as a leading cancer referral centre with the launch of the UKM Head & Neck Oncosurgery and Reconstructive Team, announced in conjunction with the World Head and Neck Cancer Day 2026 celebration. The event was officiated by HCTM Director, Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin.
Speaking at the event, Dato’ Dr. Azmi described the establishment of the multidisciplinary team as a strategic milestone in advancing head and neck cancer care at HCTM. Bringing together expertise in head and neck oncologic surgery and reconstructive surgery, the team is dedicated to delivering comprehensive treatment that not only removes cancer but also restores essential functions such as speech, swallowing, and breathing, ultimately improving patients’ quality of life.
According to GLOBOCAN 2025, an estimated 900,000 new cases of head and neck cancer are diagnosed worldwide each year, resulting in approximately 424,000 deaths. In Malaysia, nasopharyngeal cancer remains the fourth most common cancer among men. However, many patients continue to seek treatment only after the disease has reached an advanced stage, underscoring the importance of greater public awareness and early detection.
The celebration also featured an inspiring patient sharing session, where three head and neck cancer survivors recounted their treatment journeys and surgical experiences at HCTM. Their personal stories highlighted the physical and emotional challenges of cancer treatment while reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis, timely intervention, and continuous support throughout the recovery process.
The newly established UKM Head & Neck Oncosurgery and Reconstructive Team is expected to further enhance HCTM’s capabilities in managing complex head and neck cancer cases through multidisciplinary collaboration, research, and innovation. More importantly, it will expand access to high-quality, comprehensive surgical care, ensuring better outcomes and an improved quality of life for patients.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), through the Musculoskeletal Tumor Unit of the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, organised the HCTM Sarcoma Carnival and Fun Run 2026 on 25 July 2026 in conjunction with Sarcoma Awareness Week. The programme was held as part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to raise public awareness of sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the body’s soft tissues and bones, which remains relatively unknown to much of the public.
One of the key challenges associated with sarcoma is that its symptoms are often mistaken for physical injuries or common aches and pains. As a result, many patients are only diagnosed at an advanced stage of the disease. Such delays not only complicate medical treatment but also place a significant emotional burden on patients and their families. The carnival and fun run were organised not only to promote a healthy lifestyle but also to foster a caring and supportive community for those affected by sarcoma. The event was further enriched by a special sharing session featuring sarcoma cancer survivors, who spoke about their personal journeys, resilience, and experiences throughout the treatment and recovery process.
We hopes that this initiative will encourage the public to be more vigilant about any unusual physical changes in their bodies. Early detection remains the most important factor in ensuring more effective treatment and improving patients’ chances of recovery.

In conjunction with the 29th Anniversary of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Corporate Communications Department organised the Dodgeball 2.0 Tournament at the Gallery, Chancellor Tuanku Ja’afar Medical Education Complex, HCTM, at 9.00 a.m. today. The programme was designed to promote mental well-being, strengthen teamwork, and foster closer relationships among staffs, who are the driving force behind hospital’s continued success.
This year’s tournament featured a unique format, with teams grouped according to the portfolios of Management Committee members. The initiative not only bridged the gap between management and staff but also strengthened camaraderie through participation from across the UKM Kuala Lumpur (Cheras) Campus. The event became even more lively with a lucky draw, where five tickets to the UKM Royal Concert 2026 were awarded to fortunate winners. The programme concluded with a closing address by the Director of HCTM, who expressed his deepest appreciation and pride for the dedication and commitment demonstrated by all hospital staff.
“HCTM’s achievement in reaching its 29th anniversary is the result of the hard work and unwavering commitment of every one of you. I hope the spirit of togetherness and camaraderie fostered through activities such as this will continue to strengthen our culture of teamwork while safeguarding our collective mental well-being,” he said in his address.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), has taken a proactive step towards supporting global sustainability efforts with the official launch of its Sustainability Programme: Plastic-Free Initiative. The programme was inaugurated by HCTM Director, Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin, at the Gallery, Tuanku Ja’afar Chancellor Medical Education Complex, HCTM.
In his opening address, Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin described the initiative as more than just an environmental campaign, but a cultural shift that reflects HCTM’s commitment to promoting both community well-being and environmental stewardship. As a leading teaching hospital and academic medical centre, he emphasised that HCTM has a responsibility to champion sustainable practices, recognising the close relationship between human health and the health of the environment.
He further noted that the growing reliance on single-use plastics has become a global concern. These materials can take hundreds of years to decompose, contributing to pollution of land and waterways, contaminating the food chain, and posing long-term risks to public health.
The programme is a collaborative effort between HCTM’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Committee and the Department of Quality. It aims to progressively reduce the use of single-use plastics among hospital staff and visitors while fostering environmentally responsible practices across the organisation. Staff members are encouraged to adopt simple yet meaningful habits, such as bringing reusable drink containers, using reusable food containers, and declining plastic bags within the hospital premises.
Also present at the launch were Prof. Dr. Marliah Mohd Hanafiah, Deputy Director of the UKM Institute of Climate Change; Dr. Zairul Azwan Mohd Azman, Deputy Director (Medical Services) and Chair of the HCTM Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Committee; members of the HCTM Management Team; Dr. Noor Asyikin Jasni, Head of the Department of Quality; as well as heads of departments and senior officers of HCTM UKM.
In recognition of the invaluable contributions of media professionals as the backbone of the nation’s information landscape, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), organised the Stay Healthy #RakanMediaKPT Programme in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026.
The programme commenced at 10.00 a.m. at the East Lobby of Astro Bukit Jalil. The presence of HCTM’s medical team in engaging directly with media practitioners reflected the strong commitment of government agencies to promoting community health and well-being through practical initiatives. More than a gesture of appreciation, the programme served as an important platform to raise health awareness among media professionals, who often work under demanding schedules and high-pressure environments.
The health screening programme received an overwhelming response, with 150 Astro employees taking advantage of the services provided. Participants first underwent basic health assessments, including blood pressure measurement, Body Mass Index (BMI) evaluation, cholesterol testing, and blood glucose screening. These initial examinations served as important baseline indicators of each participant’s overall health before they proceeded to more specialised assessments.
What made this programme particularly distinctive was its comprehensive range of specialised health screenings. Following an initial consultation with healthcare professionals, participants were able to visit dedicated screening counters for lung, skin, and kidney health, as well as voice box examinations—an especially important service for broadcasters, presenters, and journalists who rely heavily on their voices in their profession. This holistic approach enabled media personnel to detect early signs of chronic diseases or other health conditions that could potentially affect their well-being and work performance.
Overall, the Stay Healthy #RakanMediaKPT 2026 Programme successfully achieved its objective of promoting a healthy workplace culture. The commitment demonstrated by HCTM and MOHE is expected to continue through future initiatives, ensuring that the nation’s often-unsung media professionals remain in optimal health as they carry out their vital role of delivering accurate and timely information to the public.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) melakar sejarah apabila Kafe Lobi Pelawat HCTM diiktiraf sebagai Zon BeSS (Bersih dan Selamat) yang pertama bagi Hospital Pengajar Universiti di negara ini.
Pengiktirafan tersebut diberikan dalam Majlis Pengiktirafan Zon BeSS dan Wacana Keselamatan & Kualiti Makanan yang berlangsung di Sukmaria HCTM, petang tadi.
Majlis anjuran Unit Kesihatan Awam HCTM dengan kerjasama Unit Keselamatan dan Kualiti Makanan Pejabat Kesihatan Cheras, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) itu diadakan bagi meraikan pencapaian signifikan hospital berkenaan dalam aspek kualiti hidangan.
Pengarah HCTM, Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin berkata, keselamatan makanan merupakan aspek paling kritikal dalam sesebuah fasiliti kesihatan, memandangkan hospital pengajar dan pusat rujukan tersebut menerima ribuan pengunjung setiap hari.
“HCTM sentiasa komited untuk memastikan setiap hidangan yang disediakan kepada warga hospital, pelawat dan pelanggan adalah selamat, bersih dan berkualiti.
“Lebih membanggakan, kejayaan ini terhasil daripada usaha kolektif kesemua 12 premis makanan yang beroperasi di Kafe Lobi Pelawat HCTM. Saya percaya pencapaian ini menjadi pemangkin untuk terus memperkukuh budaya keselamatan makanan di hospital ini,” katanya.
Pengiktirafan rasmi itu telah disempurnakan oleh Timbalan Pengarah Kesihatan Negeri (Keselamatan & Kualiti Makanan), Jabatan Kesihatan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur & Putrajaya, Encik Shanmugam a/l Supramaniam.
Beliau menyerahkan pensijilan BeSS kepada semua 12 premis makanan di dalam zon tersebut yang berjaya memenuhi piawaian kebersihan dan keselamatan makanan yang ketat seperti yang ditetapkan oleh KKM.
Menurut Shanmugam, pemilihan Medan Selera Lobi Pelawat HCTM sebagai Zon BeSS merupakan satu langkah yang amat strategik dan signifikan.
“Sebagai sebuah institusi kesihatan yang menjadi tumpuan ribuan pesakit, pelawat serta warga kerja setiap hari, hospital sewajarnya menjadi contoh terbaik dalam mempromosikan persekitaran makanan yang bersih, selamat dan berkualiti,” jelas beliau.
Sehingga kini, sebanyak 163 premis makanan di Kuala Lumpur dan Putrajaya telah mendapat pengiktirafan BeSS bagi tahun 2026. Angka tersebut mencerminkan peningkatan kesedaran dan komitmen industri makanan dalam mengutamakan keselamatan makanan sebagai satu budaya kerja yang lestari di ibu negara.
