Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) continues to engage with the community through the organization of the Senior Citizens Carnival and PPR Desa Tun Razak Community Day 2026, held at PPR Desa Tun Razak today.

This community outreach initiative was organized by the Public Health Unit of HCTM in collaboration with the Department of Public Health Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UKM, Cheras Health Office, PPR Desa Tun Razak Residents Association and strategic partners such as the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), Politeknik METrO, and Projek Pondok Rahmat, to bring health services and health promotion closer to the local community.

Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin, Director of HCTM, emphasized in his speech during the closing ceremony that Malaysia is currently transitioning into an aging nation. However, data from the 2025 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) shows that only 14.7 percent of senior citizens achieve healthy aging status, while nearly 85 percent live with at least one chronic illness. This scenario demands that society shift its mindset from merely aging to growing old in a healthy, active, and fulfilling manner.

To achieve this goal, three main pillars of health management were highlighted. The first pillar is healthy and budget-friendly dietary practices, where monitoring the intake of sugar, salt, and oil, alongside prioritizing fiber, can help control chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. The second pillar focuses on mental health and dementia prevention. He drew attention to national reports indicating that 9.8 percent of senior citizens suffer from dementia and approximately 770,800 people (18.8 percent) live alone. Meanwhile, the third one emphasizes the importance of early health screening at the community level.

In addition to screening activities and talks, the program demonstrated social care through the Ziarah Kasih (Care Visit) initiative. Volunteers and medical specialists from hospital visited bedridden patients and senior citizens to deliver Healthcare Packages containing disposable diapers, blue sheets, and nutritional milk, along with distributing Healthy Food Baskets to heads of B40 households.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) launched the Breast Cancer Patient Navigation Pilot Program (SURI Project) in conjunction with the “Pink October” Breast Cancer Awareness Program 2026 at the Auditorium today.

This latest initiative is specifically designed to assist patients in navigating through every phase of treatment in a more structured manner. This step simultaneously addresses treatment delays, information confusion and smooth care transitions.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Kuala Lumpur Campus, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Prof. Dato’ Dr Razman Jarmin said breast cancer remains the leading cancer most frequently diagnosed among women in Malaysia. According to him, early detection is crucial to increase survival rates and offer less invasive treatment options.

“Many individuals still seek medical examinations late due to fear, stigma, lack of awareness or difficulty navigating the healthcare system. Therefore, efforts to disseminate information on Breast Self-Examination (BSE), clinical examinations and mammograms must continue to be intensified,” he said when officiating the program.

He added that breast cancer treatment requires multidisciplinary collaboration across specialties such as surgery, oncology, radiology, pathology, rehabilitation and psychosocial support. Hence, the SURI Project stems from the commitment of the Department of Surgery alongside clinical and support units to ensure every patient receives patient-centred, safe and ethical care.

As a teaching hospital, HCTM aims to lead best practices in patient care through the embedding of a continuous learning culture.

The ceremony was also attended by Dato’ Dr Azmi Baharudin, HCTM Director, and Head of the Department of Surgery who is also the Organising Committee Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr Shahrun Niza Abdullah Suhaimi.

This year’s “Pink October” program focuses on gathering healthcare professionals, patients, survivors and the community to strengthen support and offer renewed hope to those affected.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) continues to strengthen its role as a healthcare institution that not only provides quality clinical services in the hospital, but also engages directly with the community through the KPT Prihatin MADANI programme in conjunction with the Karnival Sukan Nostalgia Anak Kampung, Jelajah Aspirasi Bebas Dadah at FELDA Soeharto.

Organised by the HCTM Customer Service Department, the programme serves as a manifestation of the institution’s commitment to expanding access to basic health education and screening, while fostering awareness that disease prevention and healthy lifestyle choices must become daily habits.

In collaboration with the Department of Nursing Services, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the participation of three Medical Officers, the initiative also received support from the Selangor National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), FELDA and the local community.

A variety of beneficial activities were carried out, including basic health screenings, oral and dental health demonstrations, hand hygiene demonstrations and health quizzes.

Also present were Mr Ahmad Zamri Noordin, Head of the Customer Service Department representing the Director of HCTM, and Mr Nazir Mohamad, Director of Selangor AADK.

Coordinated by Mr Abdul Hamid Ismail, the programme brought together 32 hospital’s personnel from various departments and groups, successfully benefiting over 150 participants.

HCTM will continue to move forward in strengthening synergies with the community and expanding inclusive health initiatives for the well-being of the people.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, vibrant, and safe hospital environment through the Gotong-Royong Perdana 2026 Programme held at the Gallery, Chancellor Tuanku Ja’afar Medical Education Complex, HCTM.

In his opening speech, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin, HCTM Director stated that the initiative extends beyond beautifying the hospital premises. He highlighted that the effort aligns directly with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), compliance with Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) standards, and the implementation of 5S/QE practices.

He added that 5S/QE practices at HCTM are now strengthened by integrating modern elements such as artificial intelligence (AI), Lean Management approaches, and sustainable practices (SD/ESG). This strategic step is expected to boost operational efficiency, safeguard staff well-being, and reinforce the hospital’s standing as a premier healthcare institution.

“This initiative supports various international standards including ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and ISO 14001, while ensuring a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors, and hospital staff,” he said.

The programme was organised by the Integrated Facility Management Department, and parts of HCTM’s early preparations for the upcoming MSQH accreditation re-assessment scheduled for 2027. Targeted enhancements include deep cleaning of critical areas, disposal of unused documents and assets, and more systematic store management. Furthermore, hospital signage is being reviewed to ensure accurate and standardized information display for the convenience of patients and visitors.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), alongside with Occupational and Environmental Health Unit (KPAS), hosted a Violence and Workplace Bullying Management Workshop today. The initiative aims to equip healthcare personnel with the knowledge, awareness, and practical skills needed to address violence and intimidation in the workplace.

Held over two days at the Auditorium,  Chancellor Tuanku Ja’afar Medical Education Complex, the workshop focused on fostering a safe, harmonious, and threat-free environment for healthcare professionals.

Delivering the opening address, HCTM Director Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin affirmed that every staff member is entitled to work in a safe, dignified setting free from harassment and aggression. He emphasized that all reported incidents must be handled through structured, professional, and established organizational protocols. 

Dr. Azmi highlighted the need for vigilance against workplace bullying, noting that it manifests in diverse forms including physical aggression, verbal abuse, threats, harassment, intimidation, social isolation, and persistent toxic behaviors that compromise employee well-being. 

Participants received practical training on key incident-response frameworks, such as Code Grey activation, early threat recognition, de-escalation techniques, coordinated team interventions, the MyHELP system, Psychological First Aid, and supervisory leadership.

 This program reflects HCTM’s ongoing commitment to building a workplace culture grounded in safety, mutual respect, and support, ensuring the continuous delivery of high-quality patient care.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), through its Corporate Communications Department, today hosted a keynote lecture entitled “Exemplary Leadership, A Liberated Soul: Emulating the Character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)” in conjunction with the National Month and Maulidur Rasul 1448H/2026M celebrations.

Held at the Chancellor Tuanku Ja’afar Medical Education Complex Auditorium, the lecture was delivered by Sahibus Saadah Dato’ Dr. Haji Badli Shah Haji Alauddin, Deputy Mufti of Pahang.

The programme sought to foster a stronger sense of patriotism among hospital staff while encouraging reflection on the struggles, values and noble character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). As frontline healthcare professionals, embracing the spirit of inner freedom and compassion rooted in the Sunnah is vital in nurturing a resilient, ethical and dedicated workforce.
