HCTM Organizes Professional Image and Grooming Talk in Conjunction with Labor Day 2026
In conjunction with the 2026 Labor Day celebration, the Corporate Communications Department of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) organized a motivational talk titled “Professional Image and Grooming” at the Auditorium, Chancellor Tuanku Ja’afar Medical Education Complex, HCTM, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), today.
The program was attended by 200 staff members from various professions. The talk was delivered by the Chief Executive Officer of CuteCarry Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Hafiz Mustapha, who is well-known as an experienced speaker in the field of professional image and grooming.
In his welcoming speech, the Director of HCTM stated that this year’s Labor Day theme, “Pekerja Madani, Kesuma Bangsa” (Madani Workers, the Nation’s Hope), is highly appropriate in recognizing the roles and contributions of the institution’s workforce.
He added that HCTM’s strength lies not only in its sophisticated facilities or expertise but also depends on the commitment and dedication of its staff, who serve as the main drivers of the organization every day.
“Frontline healthcare workers, clinical support staff, and administrative personnel all play crucial roles in ensuring the delivery of the best service to the community,” he said.
Two Million Malaysians Suffer from Asthma, Access to Anti-Inflammatory Inhalers Remains a Priority
“Access to anti-inflammatory inhalers for all asthma patients remains an urgent need” is the theme for World Asthma Day 2026, aimed at ensuring the management of this chronic disease is at an optimal level. This theme served as the core pillar for the World Asthma Day celebration at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), organized by the Endoscopy Services Center and the Heart and Lung Center at the HCTM Main Lobby today.
The Director of HCTM, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin, stated that 2024 statistics show asthma remains a significant public health issue, with an estimated two million sufferers nationwide.
“Out of that total, 1.4 million are adults, while another 500,000 involve children.
“Furthermore, patients suffering from allergic rhinitis or sinus issues have also been identified as having a three times higher risk of developing asthma,” he said during the opening ceremony of the program.
He explained that despite the availability of various effective treatment options, several major constraints—such as incorrect inhaler techniques and exposure to trigger factors—still contribute to unsatisfactory disease control.
The program emphasized the importance of using anti-inflammatory inhalers, specifically inhaled corticosteroids, as the foundational treatment and mainstay in controlling asthma. Among the program’s highlights were lecture sessions titled “A Simple Guide to Understanding & Controlling Asthma” and “A Paradigm Shift in Asthma Treatment.” In addition to expert insights, the event featured interactive sessions with chronic asthma patients who shared their experiences and challenges in facing the condition to inspire others.

Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Lancarkan Inisiatif ‘𝘎𝘙𝘌𝘌𝘕 𝘕𝘌𝘗𝘏𝘙𝘖𝘓𝘖𝘎𝘠’ Demi Kelestarian Alam Sekitar
Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) today launched its ‘Green Nephrology’ initiative, a proactive step towards balancing critical medical care with environmental sustainability. The initiative was introduced in conjunction with HCTM’s World Kidney Day 2026 celebration, themed “Kidney Health For All – Caring For People, Protecting The Planet,” held at the hospital’s Main Lobby today.
The Director of HCTM, Dato’ Dr. Azmi Baharudin, noted that while nephrology treatments—particularly hemodialysis—are life-saving procedures, they leave a substantial ecological footprint due to resource-intensive practices. According to Dr. Azmi, data indicates that a single dialysis session consumes approximately 120 liters of clean water and generates nearly two kilograms of plastic waste.
“For a patient undergoing treatment three times a week, this translates to nearly 19,000 liters of water and over 300 kilograms of plastic waste annually.
“If no action is taken now, the environmental burden will continue to escalate alongside the rising number of kidney patients in Malaysia,” he said during his opening address.
Dato’ Dr. Azmi emphasized that as a university teaching hospital, HCTM bears a significant responsibility to spearhead sustainability efforts within the nation’s medical sector. He added that the Green Nephrology initiative is no longer just an option, but a mandatory responsibility in providing more sustainable and eco-friendly healthcare services.
“Under the principle of ‘Caring for People,’ we are committed to delivering efficient, prompt, and compassionate care. However, that responsibility is now expanded through ‘Protecting the Planet’ by integrating eco-friendly practices into our daily operations,” he explained.
The celebration manifests HCTM’s dedication to strengthening a sustainable healthcare system, ensuring that patient well-being and environmental preservation progress hand in hand.
