SEMINAR “SAFE PAEDIATRIC CIRCUMCISION” SERIES 2/2017 @ ASSC 14TH OCTOBER 2017
The Family Medicine Department teamed up with Pediatric SurgeryUnit, Surgery Department, UKMMC and successfully held a seminar entitled “Safe Paediatric Circumcision Series 2/2017” on October 14, 2017 at Advanced Surgical Skills Center (ASSC), PPUKM.
In recent years the issue of botched circumcisions has come under public attention due to many unaddressed issues which could have been avoided. Realising the need to increase the awareness among primary care practitioners who are involved in providing circumcision services at community level, the Department of Family Medicine collaborated with the Department of Surgery with the aim to help reduce mortality and morbidity resulting from circumcision by untrained professionals.
The principal objective of the seminar was to expose participants to various safe surgical circumcision techniques. At the same time it also aimed to highlight clinical and medico-legal implications of circumcision. The seminar also addressed issues and misconceptions related to “female circumcision”.
The seminar has received an incredible response from within and outside UKM Medical Centre. Participants include private general practitioners, Medical Officers, Assistant Medical Officers and staff nurses from across Peninsular Malaysia.
