World Radiography Day is celebrated on 8 November every year to commemorate the discovery of x-rays by Professor Roentgen on 8 November 1895.
This program is organized by the Department of Radiological Services HCTM in collaboration with 8 Responsibility Centres, namely the Divisions of Information Technology KKL, Department of Radiology HPKK, Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, Department of Molecular Imaging & Nuclear Medicine, Department of Family Medicine Faculty of Medicine, Radiology Unit, University Health Centre, Radiology Unit of the Department of Craniofacial Diagnostics and Bioscience of the Faculty of Dentistry, and Program of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Prof. Madya Dr. Hanita said the management has always supported this kind of program and believes it will provide opportunities for the parties involved to interact and be presented with new and deeper knowledge about the services and learning opportunities offered by UKM.
She said the combination of departments and units that are related and synonymous with services and learning in the field of radiology as a whole from UKM will increase the opportunity for the community to know more closely the types of services and learning opportunities in the field of radiology.
“The activities that have been arranged by the organizers during the program are interesting and one of the activities conducted is a free breast examination and ultrasound for the surrounding community who attended the program today.
“Breast cancer, the main cause of death for women who have recorded the highest percentage of 34.1 percent compared to other cancers among women in Malaysia, is a disease that needs attention because the incidence of breast cancer in Malaysia is 34.1 cases per 100,000 female population,” she said.
The Radiology Day Celebration Ceremony will also launch the PACS Synapse System, a web-based, technologically advanced image storage and management system. This system is used in the medical field to facilitate the process of storing and sharing medical images quickly and efficiently. The technology offered increases the level of fast image access by using streaming technology directly in real time. This technology will also improve the cybersecurity of image access as sensitive medical images are not stored in local storage.
Access to medical images can be obtained more quickly and regularly, which can help experts diagnose diseases more efficiently and accurately in accordance with HCTM’s motto, ‘Better, Faster and Friendlier.’ This facility greatly benefits patients and nurses in ensuring the most accurate diagnosis while providing effective, best, and most cost-effective treatment. The people who were also present at the inauguration ceremony were Prof. Madya Datin Dr. Shahizon Azura Mohamed Mukari, Head of Radiology Department, Head of Department and HCTM Staff.
