A Workshop on Hikikomori
On April 14, 2019, the Children and Youth Psychiatric Unit held a workshop on ‘A Workshop on Hikikomori` to give insight and knowledge about Hikikomori and how to manage the disorder. The workshop was delivered by Dr. Roseline Yong, one of the lecturers at Akita University, Japan. Hikikomori is a condition in which the affected individuals refuse to leave their parents’ house and they isolate themselves from society and the family in a single room for a period exceeding 6 months. The workshop was attended by medical officers, psychiatric clinical staff and social workers.
