This guideline is describing the emergency treatment services provided at HCTM. Emergency medical services are for patients who need immediate attention. This service is provided by the Department of Emergency Medicine.

What is a Triage?

Triage means division. Any patients who seek treatment in this Department will be triaged (divided) to determine the level of well-being of their condition. Priority will be given to truly emergency cases only. Every patient who comes to JPE is entitled to receive an assessment in the Primary Triage and an assessment in the Secondary Triage or Red Box before a decision to accept or reject a patient is being made. All patients at JPE will undergo a triage process performed by a medical officer, assistant medical officer triage category.

Triage 1

Resuscitation

A life-or-limb-threatening critical emergency condition that requires immediate treatment.

Triage 2A

Unstable Emergency

An emergency condition that shows danger signs (according to the Primary Triage Checklist) as well as unstable vital signs.

Triage 2B

Stable Emergency

A state of emergency that shows danger signs (according to the Primary Triage Checklist) but with stable vital signs.

Triage 3

Immediate Treatment

Acute critical condition, there are no danger signs (according to the Primary Triage List), and have stable vital signs.
