World Heart Day Celebration Opening Ceremony
PUTRAJAYA, 11 October 2023 – The World Heart Day 2023 Opening Ceremony organized by the Cardiology Unit in collaboration with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) was held today at the Engine Bay Grounds, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Station, Putrajaya. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Zairul Azwan Mohd Azman, Deputy Director (Medical Services) represented the Director of HCTM. This year theme ‘Use Heart, Know Heart’, the objective of this celebration is to create awareness for a healthy lifestyle, educate staff about healthy heart care through healthy activities and diet and avoid smoking, give exposure to heart disease and its impact on the population in Malaysia.
Based on statistics released by the JBPM Employee Welfare Unit in the six-year period from 2016 to 2022, it is estimated that a total of 10 staff died from heart disease, which is 33 percent of the average number of deaths that occurred. The collaboration between HCTM and JBPM is the first time it has been held to provide exposure and heart health screening services to officers and firefighters. Activities such as health talks, exhibitions, CPR demonstrations, and health screening tests will be held free of charge for personnel on duty at the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department around Putrajaya. It is estimated that a total of 400 members will undergo a health screening in this programme.
Among those present at the ceremony were YS TPjB Tuan Hj. Nordin Pauzi, Director of Fire and Rescue Operations Division, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, and YS PPjB Tuan Azmi Sadon, Director of Corporate Management Division, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department. Also present, Dr. Hamat Hamdi Che Hassan, Head of the Cardiology Unit, Medical Department of HCTM, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Oteh Maskon, Cardiologist, An-Nur Specialist Centre, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Division Heads, UKM Senior Officers and invited guests.
