World Kidney Day Celebration of HCTM
CHERAS, 6 March 2024 – “Kidney health for all” is the theme of this year’s World Kidney Day Celebration. The Nephrology Unit of the Department of Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Nursing Services and the UKM Physicians Association, took the initiative to organize the Opening Ceremony of the World Kidney Day 2024 Celebration of HCTM at the Main Lobby, HCTM Clinical Block.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Nur Nafisah Wan Yahya, Head of the Medical Department, every year, Malaysians suffering from kidney failure are increasing. In 2012, a total of 29,452 people in the country underwent dialysis treatment, and the number increased to 51,256 patients in 2022.
“The number of patients has increased more than two times in just 10 years, and this increase is expected to continue, if healthcare measures are not prioritized,” she said in her opening speech this morning.
She also hopes that all parties can work together to raise awareness and concern about kidney health and make this program an important milestone in the effort to raise awareness. An estimated 100 members of the public and staff attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was officiated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Nur Nafisah Wan Yahya, Head of the Medical Department, and the representative of the Director of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz.
