Inauguration of TB Day Awareness Campaign

Cheras, 21 June 2022 – TIBI Day Awareness organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Unit (UKKP) in collaboration with the Respiratory Unit, Department of Medicine, Department of Pharmacy, Department of Corporate Communication & Customer Service and the UKM Faculty of Medicine Student Association (PERSIAP) was held briefly this morning at the Main Lobby of HCTM.

World TB Day which is celebrated on March 24 every year is to commemorate the history of the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria by Dr. Robert Koch on March 24, 1882. Themed “Invest to End TB. Save lives”, this celebration aims to increase awareness, support from all parties to the prevention and control efforts of TB disease carried out around the world. Tuberculosis or TB is an infectious disease that spreads through the air and has the potential to seriously affect a person’s lung health. The symptoms of TB are a prolonged cough that lasts more than two (2) weeks, fever, night sweats, lack of appetite, weight loss and bloody cough. Individuals with symptoms need to undergo preliminary examination and treatment at nearby health clinics and hospitals.

The ceremony was inaugurate by YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Razman Jarmin, Director of HCTM. Also present at the event Associate Prof. Dr. Jamari Sapuan, Deputy Director (Surgical Services), Dr. Zairul Azwan Mohd Azman, Deputy Director Medical Services), Mr. Mursidi Ahamad, Deputy Registrar (Administration), and Dr. Khamsiah Nawawi, Head of Occupational Safety and Health Unit cum TB Awareness Day Program Advisor.
